Service Description: • The New York State Residential Broadband Availability interactive map presents broadband service availability and characteristics for all of New York State - specifically download speed, technology type, and provider name information. Consumer cable, DSL, fiber, fixed wireless, and satellite technology information is displayed on the interactive map. The data is sourced directly from the Fixed Form 477 Broadband Deployment Data – June 2019 (version 1). Also included in this map is the New NY Broadband Program award data. The Program provides New York State grant funding to support projects that deliver high-speed Internet access to Unserved and Underserved areas of the State, with priority to Unserved areas, Libraries, and Educational Opportunity Centers. • Disclaimer: Broadband service availability and characteristics are derived from Federal Communications Commission Form 477 data June 2019 (version 1), which includes biannual broadband service provider submissions. The FCC uses a one-served, all-served method for identifying Census Block service, and, therefore, actual service may vary within and along Census Blocks. Because of this method, in some areas, BPO awards may fund unserved or underserved locations within a Census Block that appears to have existing access to 100 Mbps.
• The raw FCC 477 data can be downloaded from: https://www.fcc.gov/general/broadband-deployment-data-fcc-form-477 An explanation of the FCC 477 data is available here: https://www.fcc.gov/general/explanation-broadband-deployment-data An overview of the FCC 477 data is available here: https://www.fcc.gov/general/broadband-deployment-data-fcc-form-477 • NOTE: The visible download speed data in this web service has been manipulated for the “25 – 99 Mbps” and “24 Mbps & Below” layers. These changes were made at the request of the NYS Broadband Program Office. Their assertion is that if a provider claims to offer 100 Mbps download speed to an area, the map should also represent that area with availability to 25 – 99 Mbps AND 24 Mbps & Below service. This change has also been applied to those areas in which providers claim to offer service of 25 – 99 Mbps. The map now represents those areas with availability to 24 Mbps and Below service.
